On this page you will find links to some Mac OS X software that I have found quite useful to me and my clients. The links will open in a new page or tab.
Utility Software
•AppleJack — run diagnostic and repair scripts from Single User Mode. For Mac OS X 10.2-10.4, use version 1.4.3. For 10.5-10.6 use version 1.6.
•Onyx — maintenance and system tweaking tool. Separate versions for OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) to 10.10 (Yosemite)
Backup Software
•CarbonCopyCloner — this backup utility can create a bootable clone of your startup disk and then incrementally update it on a schedule that you choose. $45.99 with 30 -day free trial.
•SuperDuper — similar to CCC but can also create a “sandbox” for testing new software and updates. Version 2.7.5 requires OS X 10.6 or later. 10.4 and 10.5 users can download version 2.7.1, 10.3 users can download version 2.1.4, and 10.2 users can download version 1.5.5 (Advanced features require a license – $27.95 USD).
Free Productivity Software
•LibreOffice — an open source substitute for Microsoft Office, uses Java for some features
•Apache OpenOffice — The Free and Open Productivity Suite
•Bean — another free word processor for OS X only, 10.4 or newer
Multimedia Software
•Perian — QuickTime plugin to enable a wide variety of video and audio codecs
•VLC media player — standalone player supports almost every format known (it also helps HandBrake to rip DVDs)
•Adobe Flash Player — browser plugin
